DIY Laminate Flooring 101
Cheap and easy floor replacement
I recently moved to a Swedish house from 60s which had these really old and filthy 80's style floor carpets. I really wanted to get rid of them and this was the perfect opportunity to learn to do the flooring ourselves. Keeping the curiosity aside, it is expensive and arduous to find and deploy services in the construction sector in the Nordics. Let’s dig into what gets job done.
Tools needed:
- Jigsaw cutter, hacksaw and/or laminate cutter
- Flooring (Lots of information is available like this one to help choose the right floor, in my case laminate worked best) — measure the size of the room and make a rough estimate of area you need to cover with new laminate flooring.
- Measuring tape
- Pencil, Marker, Scale
- Skirting clips
- Underlay Foam (equivalent to size of the room)
- Hammer
- Seaming Tape(worst case, any decent tape would do)
Laminate comes in different thicknesses. Choosing the right thickness depends on the thickness of the current flooring and on the gap between the current flooring and the door. If a thicker of the new flooring is unsually more, the door/s won’t be able to operate perfectly.
